Meeting of Radhamohan Singh with UP Governor again sparks speculations about cabinet reshuffle

Meeting of Radhamohan Singh with UP Governor again sparks speculations about cabinet reshuffle

A meeting between Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and BJP national general secretary and in-charge of UP Radha Mohan Singh has sparked speculations once again about the cabinet expansion in the state.

Radhamohan Singh also met UP Assembly Speaker Hridaya Narain Dikshit. Singh. He termed the meetings as courtesy visits. However, he did not rule out a reshuffle in the UP cabinet.

“There are vacancies in the ministry and the same can be filled. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will take a call at an appropriate time,” Singh told the media.

“The organisation and the government are running very smoothly. The government is very popular and there is no reason to bring about a change in the party or the government,” he said.

It may be mentioned that Home Guard and Family Pension Minister Chetan Chauhan, Technical Education Minister Kamla Rani and Revenue and Flood Control Minister Vijay Kashyap have succumbed to the coronavirus infection.

The chief minister has not allocated their departments to other ministers and even additional charges have not been given to any minister.

Uttar Pradesh, with 403-members in the assembly, can have 60 ministers, including cabinet, independent and state ministers. Earlier there were 56 ministers with four vacancies. With the death of three ministers, the CM can now accommodate seven more ministers to fulfill the constitutional obligation.

Radhamohan Singh said the party had performed well in the panchayat elections and now the district panchayat president elections are due. However, he added, “The panchayat election process is not complete. Wait till the complete election process is over,” in order to assess the party's performance in the panchayat elections.

About his meeting with the governor and assembly speaker, he said it had been more than six months since he came to Uttar Pradesh. “I could not meet any senior leader all this while. The governor is an old acquaintance of mine and could not even meet her. I paid her a visit today.

Last week, BJP national general secretary, organisation, BL Santosh and Radhamohan Singh were in Lucknow for three days. During their visit, Santosh had met senior ministers and both the Deputy CMs Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya separately.
